Join us to be a part of a research project that makes a real, tangible difference in communities! You- yes, you– will be a part of a team that will conceptualize, develop and facilitate focus groups and individual interviews to gain a deeper understanding of the effects of gentrification on communities- specifically in Pointe-Saint-Charles. Your research will be done in collaboration with the Pointe-Saint-Charles Legal Clinic and Action-Gardien, two community organizations committed to fighting gentrification in the neighbourhood. We are mandated by undergraduate Concordia students to do this work, and as such particularly encourage them to apply, however students at all levels and community members are also more than welcome!
Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position.
This project runs for 9 weeks during the Winter 2019 semester.
This will be your chance to:
- Gain experience in research.
- Learn about gentrification and its effects in communities.
- Learn to develop effective interview questionnaires.
- Receive training on active listening, interviewing and group facilitation skills.
- Collaborate with other students and activists on an important social justice issue.
- Gain advocacy experience.
- Be a part of research that will be used to push for municipal policy changes and make a real difference in communities.
Our requirements:
- Have the ability to speak and read French comfortably, as you will be interviewing residents of a mainly Francophone neighborhood. This is a rare requirement for us, however it is necessary for this project. If this is not manageable for you, please stay tuned for future projects that require lower levels of French!!
- Be available to work on the project for approximately 5 hours a week for 9 weeks.
